電影在拍攝初期曾遭遇困難，攝影團隊因人數成為障礙。導演最後決定獨自手持攝影機，像小貓般三不五時自己跑去劇場，時程長達兩年。依據主題可想見拍攝者許多人對曝光有所顧忌，導演說：「我們的社會提供生活身份多重的可能性。但有些人希望將興趣嚴格保密。」她不願拍攝遮掩隱匿的紀錄片，經過協商討論，影片聚焦在性工作者Mara與創辦者Felix，呈現他們暢所欲言並清楚己身作為的狀態。

在記錄的敘事外，電影有一點很有趣：即攝影機的存在。作為觀眾直視影像，我們往往忽略攝影機作為眼球。當這顆眼球放置銀幕時，私領域躍升成為公領域。在《愉虐秘境》中，攝影機與參與者保持親密連結，銀幕將觀眾拉入（可能不舒服）的位置，以視覺體驗身體近距離接觸（即性帶來的）愉悅和痛苦。誠如導演受訪提及：「攝影機提供反思映照，讓被攝者意識到發生何事。」我不禁猜想，拍片這個舉動，是否也是將「Schwelle 7」轉化成「公共－性」（public sex）？
近代資本主義社會中，家庭成為基本生產單位，社會建構將「性」規範在自家臥房（私領域）。「公共－性」在公眾眼球底下通常是負面輿論評價，譬如說臺灣曾發生的「農安趴」、「台鐵性愛趴」。儘管《愉虐秘境》的性實踐（包含觀眾）多數超過三人，符合公共空間定義，但它始終限制在「Schwelle 7」的閉鎖空間。攝影機打破邊界，讓性變得公開，被攝者明白己身性行為透過電影被看見，羞恥蕩然不僅存在當下更袒露於銀幕。觀影過程裡，觀眾彷彿成為「公共－性」的共同實踐者，與被攝者們抵抗與臣服公共場所中賦予的公權力。於是，愉虐不只存在祕境，透過觀看，打破規訓約束，擴及己身，你與我也參與了這場愉虐實驗。
