2018 年坎城影展上最讓人印象深刻的一幕，是在電影《太陽之女》放映前的紅毯上，當屆評審團主席凱特布蘭琪登高一呼，率領 82 位女性電影工作者站上紅毯階梯，共同發表促進電影產業中性別平等的聲明。
那份聲明裡最震耳欲聾的不是任何振奮人心的口號，而是數字：82 與 1688。
82 位女性，是歷來踏上坎城紅毯的女性導演數量，而與之相對的男性導演，是 1688 位。當中獲得金棕櫚獎的男性導演超過 71 位，而女性導演則是 2 位。
如今 6 年過去，這數字有了大幅的成長，獲得金棕櫚獎的女性導演翻倍，來到 4 位。
一切都關乎數字。登高疾呼的背面，也有人在為影視產業裡的數字埋頭奮戰。在凱特布蘭琪號召聲明的前一年，妮可基嫚一次帶著 4 部作品來到坎城影展。在《聖鹿之死》的媒體採訪裡，她公開發下諾言——
「每 18 個月左右，我就會跟一位女性導演合作拍一部電影。因為當其他女性說『我現在只會選擇一位女性合作』的時候，這才是唯一能夠改變統計數據的方式。」
7 年過去，許多人或許已經不記得當初這份承諾。今年十月，一則 X 上的貼文羅列了妮可基嫚這幾年來合作的女性導演名單，文章在兩週內被分享近 6 千次，許多人才驚覺，妮可基嫚並不只是說說而已。
這一串女性導演名單裡，是——

◦ 電影《毀滅者》（2018）的 Karyn Kusama
◦ 影集《還原人生》（2020）與《模範愛侶》（2024）的 Susanne Bier
◦ 影集《她們的怒吼》（2022）的 So Yong Kim、Quyen Tran、Anya Adams、Liz Flahive、Rashida Jones、Kim Gehrig、Channing Godfrey Peoples
◦ 影集《小鎮主婦的愛與死》（2023）的 Lesli Linka Glatter
◦ 影集《外籍之人》（2024）的王子逸
◦ 電影《乖女孩》（2024）的 Halina Reijn
◦ 動畫《Spellbound》（2024）的 Vicky Jenson
◦ 電影《Holland, Michigan》（未上映）的 Mimi Cave
換算她當初的承諾——7 年，84 個月，四捨五入的標準是 5 位女導演。而妮可基嫚做到的是整整三倍。
2017 年的這份承諾，或許也來自身邊最親近的人。妮可基嫚當時在《Glamour》的訪問裡提到：「我 9 歲的女兒現在想成為一名導演。她的態度是『這世界是我的舞台』，但她沒有意識到事實上並不是這樣。」
後來女兒終究沒有走上導演的路，但妮可基嫚卻為更多女性電影工作者開了窗。
2010 年，妮可基嫚成立自己的製作公司 Blossom Film，以製片人的身份向更多女性導演遞出橄欖枝。比起單純的演員身份，製片人有更多的話語權和權限為工作人員們設下保障，這 15 位女性導演的名單裡，有 12 位導演簽約成為 Blossom Film 旗下的員工，即使在沒有拍攝的空窗期裡，也有穩定的薪資確保生活不虞匱乏。
而這些合作導演中，固然有像助她奪下威尼斯最佳女演員獎、再創事業高峰的 Halina Reijn，或者是以《別告訴她》在獎季大放異彩的王子逸，卻也未必每次合作都能夠大獲成功，然而妮可基嫚願意最大程度地提供嘗試與摸索的空間。
只要多一位女性導演加入，在統計數字上，那就是 0 與 1 的巨大差別。
今年的艾美獎頒獎典禮上，主持人 Steve Martin 在台上調侃妮可基嫚：「我如果遇到一個不認識的演員，我只要跟他說『我喜歡你跟妮可基嫚的那場戲』，那就包準沒錯。」搞笑段子背後的台詞是，她出鏡頻率太高了。
年過五十之後，同期的許多演員紛紛選擇減少產量，但妮可基嫚卻看似反其道而行。光是 2024 年，她就有兩部電影和兩部影集確定上映，以及更多籌備中或等待上映的作品，多到《Variety》直接在專訪文章的第一句寫：「妮可基嫚是現在好萊塢最勤勞工作的人嗎？」
不是沒想過休息，但對現階段的她而言，更重要的是透過監製和演出，為更多電影人製造工作機會——尤其是女性電影人們。2024 年妮可基嫚出鏡的 4 部作品裡，全部都是由女性導演執導。
今年四月妮可基嫚在獲頒美國電影學會終身成就獎時，談到與女導演合作的起點，那是 1996 年珍康萍執導的《妮可基嫚之風情萬種》。「在那之後我又跟許多女導演合作，未來也還會有更多。我很開心以製片人的身份支持她們，這是我的目標。過去十年，我真正的目標就是用我所有的力量去支援她們。」
7 年 15 位女性導演，靠的並非橫空出世，而是妮可基嫚落地的實踐。畢竟，「作為一名倡議者，你必須真的將事情付諸行動。」
